Cultural Tourism:
          The Department of Tourism, government of Kerala, sanction for the proposed thullal gurukulam at Killikurisimangalam, birthplace of Kunchan Nambiar, at Lakkidi near here. The ‘gurukulam’, to be set up at a cost of Rs.45 lakh, will be located on the premises of Kunchan Nambiar Smarakam. The house where Kunchan Nambiar was born is preserved as a memorial of Kunchan Nambiar.The ‘smarakam’ is giving training on different forms of thullal - Ottan, Seethankan and Parayan. Kunchan Nambiar represented the golden age of Malayalam literature and his smarakam has a library and an auditorium. A four-year course in Ottanthullal, Seethankan and Parayan Thullal is being conducted here with the help of artistes attached to this national monument.The new gurukulam will have a ‘koothambalam’; museum depicting various stages of the life of Kunchan Nambiar and a souvenir area. It will provide amenities within the ‘smarakam’ to conduct courses and research in ‘thullal.’ Among the classical performing arts of Kerala, thullal is distinct with its simplicity and frank, outspoken wit and humour.
